The Best Disc Golf Bags for Every Budget

Arguably the only piece of equipment more critical than the discs themselves, are what you use to carry them. Disc golf bags come in all sizes, shapes, and prices. Whether you are buying your first bag or finally feel like an upgrade is needed, it can be overwhelming at the amount of options that are out there. We are going to cover our best picks at five different budget ranges with reasoning. Let us know if you own one of these or if we missed your bag below!

$25 & Under

Our pick for this category is newer to the market – the Himal disc golf bag holds 18-22 discs and can hold up to a 40 oz water bottle. It also has some extra storage for a towel, pens, and a phone. Keep in mind this bag is lightweight(under 2 lbs) which is great buttttt that also means this probably will not hold up under long term use and could be quite flimsy. Overall, this bag is perfect for beginners or for someone looking to have a smaller bag.

$50 & Under

For our $50 and under category, the Dynamic Discs Civilian bag is our favorite option. It claims to hold 18 discs in the main compartment with a couple more in the top pocket. A main complaint is the lack of support in the top pocket but this is typical at this price point. There isn’t a ton to say about bags at this price point as there aren’t many differences between it and the previous bag.

$100 & Under

For $100 and under, there isn’t a huge jump from our previous price range. The MVP Voyager Lite sticks out as the best bet retailing right around $90. This is, you guessed it, the liter version of MVP’s flagship bag carried by 2021 World Champion, James Conrad. With this bag, you get a fairly durable build(900D material), a 20-22 disc capacity, some side pocket storage, and a limited lifetime warranty. This is a good first backpack but if you are looking for a more well rounded, higher durability bag for regular tournament use, look to a higher budget.

$200 & Under

The $200 and under category is a tough one – you are wanting to get into a nicer, large backpack but it isn’t enough to get into a full scale backpack. At this price point, the newly released Squatch Lore seems to give you the best bang for your buck – especially if this is a bag that is going to be used in tournaments. Coming in plenty of different colors, it holds 21+ discs, large water bottles, and plenty of room in the side pockets for towels, a retriever, etc. The only downside is if you love carrying 30+ discs – if so, this isn’t the bag for you. This bag is basically brand new to the market but seems to be ticking quite a few boxes for many disc golfers!

$300 & Under

This price range has the toughest battle in my opinion – the Grip AX5 and Squatch Legend 3.0 are very competitive and great in their own ways. The winner for us is the Legend 3.0 – but it is CLOSE. The bags come in at very similar prices(between $230-270 depending if you find it on sale) but the Legend 3.0 has features that make it a more effective tournament bag. Flexing the ability to carry 50+ discs(which who would ever need that many, right?), an optional built in cooler, large pockets to fit anything you could need. On top of all of that, a lifetime warranty, 1000d/500d Cordura nylon with a water-resistant coating, and what seems to be a company willing to add features to their bag as needed. This doesn’t mean the Squatch bags are without fault – these bags are big and boy do they feel big when you are carrying them. Due to the size, regardless of how much you are carrying, the bag can be a bit floppy and strenuous to carry. If you need the space this bag provides, it is by far the best value but if you don’t carry more than 25 discs, you may look for something like the Grip AX5.

No Limit

Welcome to the high roller room – if you are just looking for the best bag money can buy, no matter the cost, look no further that Pound Disc Golf. I would argue Pound is the largest “boutique” disc golf bag provider and that can be seen in their custom bag program. You can customize almost every aspect of the bag down the the colors of the zippers. All of the bags are hand-made in Pound’s warehouse in Oregon, as well as fixed under their lifetime warranty. While they have bags ranging in size and cost, if want the best, you are probably getting a Pound Ballistic Octothorpe. It has many similarities to the Legend 3.0(40+ disc capacity, space for everything, optional cooler) but gets an upgrade in the build material to 1680D exterior nylon. On paper, the Legend 3.0 is a much better value BUT as someone who has carried both, the Pound bag is much easier to carry and puts much less strain on your back. With an overall better build quality, more custom options, USA made, and better experience carrying, there is not a better bag on the market for someone with no budget.

What is the best value?

When determining what the best value bag is, it is important to establish who is buying the bag. In this case, we’ll assume the buyer is someone who has consistently played competitively for a few years and is looking to upgrade to a new bag. We can easily dismiss the $25 and $50 bags as the aren’t great for someone looking for a high-use tournament bag. The Octothorpe is INCREDIBLE but for $500+, this is a huge investment for a hobby and the Squatch Lore just doesn’t have the disc storage to be considered best overall value in our opinion. Which makes the Squatch Legend 3.0 our winner for best overall value bag!
